Dick began his presentation by sharing with the students how he ended up in Groningen and studied there. He talked about the choices he made and how, after working both in the Netherlands and abroad, he ultimately joined Triodos IM. He elaborated on the evolution of the Asset Management sector, from Gordon Gecko in the 1980s to today’s era where Impact Asset Management is a respected practice.
Dick then delved deeper into the Asset Management sector as a whole, focusing on the Netherlands and the different types of Asset Management that exist. He highlighted the skills students need to succeed in this sector, particularly emphasizing the importance of data skills. The sector offers a wide range of career opportunities centered around intellectually challenging and impactful work. He concluded with a clear message to the next generation of asset managers: “In a few years, it will be your turn!”
Following his presentation, Judith Sanders, Sustainable Investment Strategist at ABN AMRO, delivered an inspiring talk on sustainable investing. The event concluded with a lively panel discussion featuring Dick and Judith, expertly moderated by Roelof Salomons, professor at the University of Groningen and Chief Investment Strategist at BlackRock Netherlands. Roelof’s skillful moderation and the thought-provoking questions from the audience made the panel discussion highly interactive and engaging.
It was a successful event for DUFAS as well as the University and the students and we look forward to the next editions. More information about the College Tour or curious about career opportunities within the asset management sector? Take a look around this website.
