After Martijn and Wilrik had briefly introduced themselves to the audience, the students were led into the world of asset management. Here they learned what activities asset management encompasses and how Martijn and Wilrik became involved in this sector. The students were given an exclusive look into the personal choices and ambitions of both speakers.
Sander then addressed different topics, such as the social challenges facing asset managers and where we currently stand in the field of sustainability. Although the topics of ESG and sustainability were foremost in the minds of the audience, they are generally considered to be a personal choice on the part of asset managers. It is not clear what choices need to be made to make the transition sustainable. Based on questions posed by students, however, the speakers were able to provide more clarity in this regard.
Sander’s appeal at the opening of the event for students to ask questions was met with great enthusiasm. The topics discussed created a lot of excitement in the room, and resulted in meaningful discussions.
When the formal part of the College Tour event finished after about two hours, all the participants gathered together for a drink, during which many students continued to engage in further discussions with the CEOs.
